Metsimaholo registration weekend on for by-elections

The Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State province is urging all eligible voters in Metsimaholo Municipality to go register this weekend, and for current voters to verify their registration details ahead of the by-elections in July.

The Commission is currently facilitating voter registration weekend which began on Saturday, 24 May and will end today, Sunday, 25 May 2025, at 17:00. Voters and eligible voters are advised to make their way to the different voting stations which will be opened from 8am to 5pm.

The by-elections in the province are scheduled for Wednesday, 9 July 2025.

The Electoral Commission urges eligible voters to present their identity documents (ID) for registration, which may include a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary ID Certificate. Voters will be required to furnish their physical home address upon registration or provide sufficient particulars regarding their place of residence. Documented proof of address (such as a municipal account) is not mandatory.

Voters may also verify and update their details at their local (municipal) Electoral Commission (IEC) office during weekdays within office hours. It is important for voters to note that it constitutes a criminal offense to register and vote in a ward where they are not ordinarily resident.

By-elections will be conducted in the following ward: Ward 14 in the Metsimaholo Municipality – FS204, which became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Registration and voting will occur at the following stations:

Ward: 42004014.

 VD Number: 22750309, 22750398 and 22820037.

VS Name: Leeuwspruit Primary School, Vaalpark Primary School and Ledibohong Primary School

Registered Population: 1498, 339 and 1749

Special voting will be available at voting stations as well as through home visits on 8 July 2025 between 08h00 and 17h00. Voters wishing to apply for a special vote may do so at their local IEC office during office hours from 23 June 2025 to 27 June 2025.

Applications for special votes can also be submitted online via the IEC’s website, www.elections.org.za. Upon applying online, voters will receive an SMS notification regarding the outcome once their application has been processed. They may also check the status of their special vote application online at www.elections.org.za.
