The Free State MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Mr Ketso Makume will on Friday table his 2026/27 budget speech in Bloemfontein under the theme: ‘Year of decisive action to fix local government and transform the economy’.
Based on the theme, the budget, without excluding a number of pressing issues in the Free State Province, will mainly focus on fixing municipalities across the province.
According to the Spokesperson for the Free State Provincial Department of Treasury Mr Tshidiso Mokokoane, through this budget, the Free State Provincial Government seeks to accelerate advances towards the achievement of key priorities of the 7th Administration.
“MEC Makume will outline the provincial government’s revenue and expenditure plans and allocate scarce financial resources to foster economic growth for the upcoming financial year. Through his stewardship, commitment, and dedication, both departments (Provincial Treasury and DESTEA) serving under his ministry obtained clean audit outcomes endorsed by the Audit General of South Africa (AGSA).
Clean audit translates that the reported performance is supported by valid, reliable, and complete performance evidence. It further indicates that transactions were done within financial prescripts to avoid irregular expenditure,” explained Mokokoane.
The budget speech will take place at the City Hall in Bloemfontein on Friday, 13 March 2026, at 10am South African time.
The MEC’s speech will be also broadcasted live on: Lesedi FM, Ofm, Free State community radio stations, Government social media platforms.
