The academic journey begins for many pupils today, most of whom will be their first time to step in class to begin their journey without their mommies by their side.
The first day of school is usually filled with a lot of mixed feelings; with some first timers being excited to begin a journey relatively independent from their parents, while others it is a scary thought to be amongst strangers without their parents.
The first day is usually filled with funny emotional moments, some learners crying for their parents and even attempt to escape school to go back home, but the emotions are not limited to the pupils, even parents tend to cry on the first day of school, as some find it hard to let go of their bundle of joy.
The day is also a memorable moment for both learners and parents, taking photos to capture the special moments of those bright shiny small smiles.
Teachers will be faced with a mammoth task of chasing after those who want to make a run for it, to comfort those who are crying and make them comfortable to be at school.
One of the most interesting things from the grade 1 learners is listening to their ambitions as they begin their academic journey, what they want to be when they grow up. One has heard all sorts of things including the ambition to become Spiderman, a soldier, a mother, to having a list of professions that will require at least three lifetimes to achieve them.
