By They are not izinyokanyoka but a legit striking power that keeps on surprising the football fraternity. Magesi FC pulled another rabbit out their hat on Saturday, 23 November 2024 in Bloemfontein when they beat the seemingly unstoppable Mamelodi Sundowns to win the Carling Black Label Cup.
The goal keeper of Magesi FC Elvis Chipezeze was one player that stood out, making remarkable saves to keep his team in play. The Brazilians dominated the first half and went on the offensive from the onset; they were threating with brilliant shots at goal but Chipezeze was a soldier ready to defend his team.
The game was of high standard and the tension could be felt in the atmosphere, with Sundowns searching for the opener, they were finally rewarded through a through pass into the box finding Lucas Ribeiro who put the ball past Chipezeze in the far right corner breaking the deadlock on the 37th minute.
The teams went to break with Sundowns leading 1-0.
Magasi FC coach reminded his team of the power of ‘ugesi’ in the changing, they came back into the field with intention; within three minutes, Magesi found the net from a cross into the box, with a downward header Tshepo Kakora scored the equaliser on the 48th minute.
The game was now open, the ground was levelled and whoever scores first might lift the cup. The Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein was now alive with possibility as both teams searched for a second goal to seal the win. Kabo Yellow tried to get ahead but Magesi could see the cup at the end of the game, they absorbed the pressure and applied their pressure as well.
From a corner kick into the box finding Delano Abrahams, with a fatal blow scored a second goal for Magesi FC on the 87th minute. The Brazilians tried in vain to get back into the game but ran out of time as the referee blew the last whistle, making the PSL rookies the Black Label Cup final winners.
Magesi beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1.
