Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi Spearheads Major Energy and Water Infrastructure Push in Emfuleni

JOHANNESBURG — Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is leading a critical transformer switch-on event in Sebokeng today under the banner of Operation Khanyisa, a strategic provincial initiative designed to tackle chronic electricity supply challenges and stabilize power networks across the region.

Conducted in direct partnership with national power utility Eskom and municipal distributor City Power, the intervention forms a cornerstone of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s broader Energy Response Plan.

This ongoing economic recovery effort focuses heavily on replacing overburdened infrastructure, installing new transformers, and safeguarding the long-term reliability of power grids in high-demand communities.

Beyond residential grid stabilization, today’s rollout carries crucial industrial and municipal implications. Alongside the community network upgrades in Sebokeng Zone 3 and Kanana, the provincial government is energizing the primary power cable supplying Rand Water in Vereeniging.

Securing a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply for this vital water infrastructure is essential for preventing municipal service disruptions, protecting regional public health, and maintaining commercial continuity across the industrial Vaal region.

The dual focus on local grid upgrades and bulk municipal utility protection highlights the provincial administration’s integrated approach to infrastructure management. By addressing energy bottlenecks at the municipal level, the Gauteng Provincial Government aims to restore investor confidence, bolster local economic activity, and ensure reliable essential services for residents and industries alike.
