Diplomacy is an art of tact of which all Presidents of different countries of the world need to be equipped with; mutual respect and dignity accompany this sensitive skill; one wrong move in this area can obit the country into serious international challenges.
The United States under its current president Donald Trump is fast becoming mediocre, undesirable and a bully that lives in a cloud of miss-information. A country respected for its intelligence is under question on how it arrives to most of its miss-informed decisions. A country ruled by a person who lacks presidential etiquecy.
The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was invited to The White House’ Oval Office to sign a deal in exchange of USA’s military aid to Ukraine, whereby America will gross $500billion from the mineral resources of Ukraine, this includes oil and gas.
From his arrival, Trump was onto Zelensky regarding his dress code, furthermore, went into a meeting of which was actually supposed to be behind closed doors, but he wanted to show his strength in front of the world. The meeting soon went south and resulted into a shouting and belittling contest.
Zelensky could not agree to the deal, but instead of trying to negotiate for a better deal, the US ganged up on the invited president, making him feel like an ungrateful person for not agreeing to the deal, being told that he is gambling with world war III. The gaslighting was just too much.
Trump and his deputy James Vance went at Zelensky, but he showed great restraint though being embarrassed in front of cameras. It was very distasteful for the world to witness such disrespect to a fellow statesman being bullied into submission to the detriment of his own country and people.
By refusing to sign the deal, he was accused of being reckless and responsible for the death of his people in war, that if it were not for America, that war would have been over in three days. Trump told Zelensky that he does not command any respect, Vladimir Putin does not respect Obama but instead respects him.
Trump has since withdrawn aid for Ukraine, as much as he goes around bullying the world, one thing he is not aware of is that, he pushing the world away from the United States, countries and economic blocs are now considering doing things without the aid of America because they would not be bullied by Donald Trump.
Trump is fast becoming a danger to his country, international diplomacy and the world order as we know it. He is acting without considering the outcomes of his behaviour and the dignity of his country, he undermines sovereign states and internal economic blocs, he has gone rouge using USA aid to respective countries to align them to US foreign policy. He has a win lose approach, no negotiations but just submit to the all-powerful Trump and America.
One wonders how long the citizens of America will tolerate such humiliation from their president. Will he finish his term? Or will the USA plunge into protest demanding the removal of Trump before it loses all of its diplomatic allies? This is a space to watch with great interest.
