MANGAUNG – Marking South Africa’s historic Youth Day, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State hosted a community soccer tournament and youth empowerment initiative on Tuesday in Rocklands, Mangaung. The event combined community sports with practical economic support, signalling the party’s focus on grassroots development amid ongoing provincial challenges.
The commemoration featured a youth soccer tournament held on a local field sponsored by Build It, bringing together young residents to build community ties and honour the historical significance of June 16th.

“Youth Day is a time to honour the sacrifices of the past while taking ownership of the future,” said DA Free State Leader Roy Jankielsohn MPL. “The young people of today will shape the future of the Free State, and it is our responsibility to support and empower them.”
Addressing the province’s pressing youth unemployment crisis, the DA integrated a practical career development component into the day’s activities. Organizers set up a dedicated “CV Assistance Table” aimed at helping young attendees refine and improve their resumes to boost their employability and job-hunting prospects.
The initiative highlights the DA’s ongoing political messaging in the region, which emphasizes economic opportunity and skills development as the primary drivers for youth liberation. Reaffirming the party’s provincial vision, Jankielsohn emphasized a commitment to creating sustainable opportunities and building an environment where the next generation can achieve long-term success.
