BLOEMFONTEIN — The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State has officially launched a province-wide voter registration campaign aimed at reclaiming local government structures and reversing years of institutional decay.
With the Local Government Elections (LGE) officially set for November 4, the official opposition is moving early to secure its footprint ahead of the critical registration weekend on June 20–21.
A Campaign for Municipal Restoration
DA Free State Leader, Dr. Roy Jankielsohn, announced the rollout of the party’s first wave of voter registration posters. The strategy stretches beyond mere marketing; the party is actively reinforcing its municipal readiness structures and introducing its mayoral candidates directly to local communities.
According to Jankielsohn, the upcoming election is a pivotal crossroads for a province long plagued by administrative collapse.
“We believe the upcoming elections present an opportunity for residents to vote for a government that will restore functionality, accountability, and service delivery in municipalities that have suffered under years of poor governance,” Jankielsohn stated.
The Mechanics of Change
The DA’s provincial strategy hinges heavily on voter turnout and geographic compliance. Party leadership emphasized that structural political change can only materialize if citizens are accurately registered in the specific wards where they reside.
The upcoming June registration drive is viewed as the catalyst for a sustained, high-intensity provincial campaign designed to educate eligible voters on the power of the ballot.
To counter voter apathy, the DA plans to deploy teams on the ground to provide logistical assistance and registration information, urging residents to take direct ownership of their municipalities’ futures. As the November election approaches, the Free State is shaping up to be a key battleground where municipal service delivery will be the ultimate deciding factor.
