CENTLEC is warning residents and the business community in Mangaung Metro of fraudulent people claiming to be representatives of the power utility, and collecting debt on their behalf.
Noting the current debt collector scammer, Tseliso Leba, the Acting Spokesperson for CENTLEC, says the utility has not yet appointed any debt collectors to collect outstanding debts on behalf of the company.
“Customers are hereby cautioned that, should they receive any type of communication (including SMSs, emails, letters, or phone calls) claiming that a specific amount is owed to the company and that payment should be made via a third party, they must ignore such request and not make any payment before verifying the information directly with CENTLEC.
Customers are urged to immediately contact CENTLEC to confirm the legitimacy of any such communication prior to making payment,” said Leba.
CENTLEC further advises that once debt collectors have been formally appointed, an official public notice will be issued confirming the appointment and providing full details. For verification or further information, please contact CENTLEC’s Credit Control Division at 051 412 2656 during office hours.
