Bloemfontein has shown the country that it loves its soccer and has influenced some important decision makers to bring more games and even relocate their clubs to Bloemfontein.
Free Stators and residents of Bloemfontein filled the Free State Stadium on 11 June 2024, where Bafana Bafana was playing against Zimbabwe for the FIFA World Cup Qualifier. The show of support revealed the hunger for a locally based club. The turnout also inspired Bafana Bafana Coach to bring the games to Bloemfontein.
Recently, Marumo Gallants FC announced that they will be relocating to Bloemfontein, making Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium their home ground, and playing bigger games at the Free State Stadium.
Since losing Bloemfontein Celtics, the soccer lovers have been left without any fun time. Molemela Stadium will once again be a hive of activity when Marumo Gallants move to Bloemfontein.
The club says it is exciting to return to the DSTV Premiership League after buying the status of Moroka Swallows. Marumo Gallants says it is humbled by the support it received from Free State supporters and stakeholders; and the club has since expressed its appreciation for the support.
Marumo Gallants further said during a media briefing that, it will be using the current name for this season as registered with the PSL, however, should anything happen, they will inform the fans.
As the club ready itself for the new season, it has announced Dylan Kerr as its Head Coach, and said it will retain some players from Swallows with valid contracts; the club will also be promoting some of its players from the first division to join the mainstream.
The presence of Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein will also benefit young stars as the Coach announced that, as part of his plans he will develop football in Bloemfontein as part of giving back to the community.
