The European champions emerged the victor over the African champions last night Tuesday, 29 October 2024, during an international friendly in England, at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Banyana Banyana played good quality football but England showed itself a force and won the game. Both teams created scoring opportunities but it was unfortunate for South Africa as they could not capitalise on most of them.
From a corner kick, and the ball spilling over onto Leah Williamson’s feet on the penalty spot, she blasted the ball past the players and the keeper into the right corner of the goal post, scoring the opener for England on the 12th minute.
England came back 10 minutes later, with a header, Grace Clinton placed the ball in the same right corner beating Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart and scored a second goal for England on the 23rd minute.
The teams went to break with England leading by 2- 0.
In the second half, South Africa tried to push back and were finally rewarded when Thembi Kgatlana collected a loose ball and raced towards goal and slotted the ball past the keeper into the left corner on the 55th minute, pulling one back for Banyana Banyana.
England won the game 2- 1 Banyana Banyana.
