ANC wishes MEC Makume a speedy recovery

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State says it has noted the motor vehicle accident that the MEC for the Department of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Comrade Ketso Makume was involved in with sadness and that the party is relieved that he did not sustain serious injuries.

Makume was traveling from leading an ANC Provincial delegation to a three days Regional Conference of Thabo Mofutsanyana when the accident occurred on the N5 between Paul Roux and Senekal on Sunday, 19 April 2026, when an animal suddenly jumped on the road.

“We are deeply relieved that a collision with a wild animal did not result in serious injuries to him and his protectors. The hand of providence has been upon them, and for that we give thanks.

Cde Makume’s portfolio is at the heart of our collective mission to rebuild municipalities, stabilise local finances, and drive an inclusive, transformative economic agenda that puts jobs, dignity, and development in every ward.

We wish therefore Comrade Makume a full and speedy recovery, not only in body but in spirit, so that he may return swiftly to the people’s work. We also send our solidarity and well-wishes to his protectors and their families. May they all regain their strength and re-join the frontline of the struggle for a better Free State.

The ANC calls on all our members, supporters, and the people of the Free State to respect the privacy of Cde Makume and his family during this time of rest and recuperation. Let us channel our energy into prayer and recovery,” said the Spokesperson for the ANC in the Free State Mr Thabo Meeko.
