The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State showed itself a force during the by-elections held on 28 August 2024, by retaining its ward by a majority vote.
According to the Electoral Commission (EIC), the ANC first won ward 7 in Ngwathe Municipality in 2021 during the Municipal elections. The party retained the ward as it received a majority vote of 64.46%, an improvement from the 55.96% they received in 2021.
The ANC in Fezile Dabi region has since welcomed the results of the by-elections; according to the Spokesperson of the region, Sello Pietersen, the party fielded one of its best comrades as a candidate for the by-elections Cde Tshidiso Ramabodu, who emerged victorious. The party has expressed confidence in Ramabodu saying he is grounded and equally committed comrade.
Pietersen says the party is however concerned over the low voter turnout of 38% in the region and said more focus must be placed in ensuring that there is drastic improvement across the region.
“The ANC in Fezile Dabi Region wishes to congratulate our Councillor elect, Cde Tshidiso Ramabodu in his election and remain confident in his ability to provide leadership to the entire community of Ward 7 and ensure that provision of consistent quality services is a reality.
Furthermore, we would like to thank all our elections structures, the Leagues, the Alliance Partners and most importantly, the backbone of our elections machinery, the hardworking volunteers of the Movement, who spared no effort in ensuring that we achieve our victory. The ANC appreciates the community of Ward 7 for opening their doors, sharing their views and placing their trust and confidence in the ANC through this decisive re-election,” said Sello Pietersen.
The Spokesperson further committed that the ANC in the region will, through its public representatives, address issues raised by community members during the campaign trail.
