South Africa entered the game against the T20 ICC Women’s World Cup favourites Australia last night in Dubai, only to cause a major upset and push through to the finals.
Success chances against the Aussies were very slim for the Proteas given the history between the two, South Africa has never beaten Australia in the T20 World Cup, but the Proteas had something to prove and they did just that.
Anneke Bosch was the star player leading the team with 74 runs, 48 balls, 8 fours, and 1 six.
Australia batted first, however, the Proteas with their excellent bowling and fielding, showed themselves a force. By the end of their 20 overs, Australia was ahead with 134-4 (20 ov.).
South Africa had a huge mountain to climb and chase the score, brilliant batting Anneke Bosch gave South Africa the edge and the will to fight and powered their way to the finals, brilliant batting and runs teaming up with captain Laura Wolvaardt leading to a 16 balls win.
Causing one of the biggest upset in the history of cricket, the Proteas beat Australia by 8 wickets, 135-2 (17.2 ov.)
The finals will take place on Sunday, 20 October with an opponent yet to be announced.
