Zungula replaced as ATM President

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has changed its political face by appointing Prof Caesar Nongqunga as its new President, while its former leader Vuyolwethu Zungula has been deployed to parliament.

Politics is a game of uncertainty, as the unexpected can unfold at a rapid pace. The somewhat shocking announcement on Monday, 9 June 2025, by the party to replace its President was rather unexpected; however, the ATM explained that there is no malice regarding the change of face but rather a strategic move to grow the party.

The ATM says Prof. Nongqunga; ‘a beacon of hope’ has extensive experience in both leadership and community service. As a leader of the Twelve Apostles Church, he will also be bringing on board a spiritual touch to the vision of the party.

“As we welcome Professor Caesar Nongqunga into his new role as President, we acknowledge his profound vision for the ATM. Professor Nongqunga is not only a leader but also a beacon of hope for many. His commitment for establishing true democracy and holistic liberation encompasses the creation of a conducive environment for physical, psychological, social, socio-economic, and spiritual growth for citizens,” said the party.

Zungula has led the party since its inception in 2018; he has not only been the face of the party but also helped in growing the party to significance and led it to parliament. ATM has since acknowledged the role he played and thanked him.

“The decision made by the National Executive Committee to separate the role of party advocacy and organisational building will greatly benefit the ATM. With Professor Nongqunga focusing on party leadership and growth, and Hon Zungula concentrating on parliamentary leadership, we are poised for a new era of growth and effectiveness.

This strategic division allows us to address the multifaceted challenges we face with renewed vigour and clarity of purpose,” said the ATM.
