Farmers in the Free State continue to suffer the devastating blow of veldfires causing havoc across the province.
The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs confirmed to the media on Monday evening, 15 July 2024 that six farms were burning due to veldfires that are burning at high speed in Ladybrand, East of the Free State.
The department further urges farmers and the farming community to be on the lookout as the cause of the fire is still unknown. However, Working on Fire Teams were swift to responded and were attending to the fire.
A week ago, the veldfires ravaged the province burning thousands of hectors; farmers are still trying to cope with their losses from that disaster. The MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs Ms Elizabeth Rockman visit the farmers to assess the extent of the damage and see how the department can intervene.
