The Trump administration has dented the image of the United States of America (USA) with the currently chaos unfolding in Minneapolis, raising serious concerning questions of safety ahead of the FIFA soccer World Cup 2026 and the G20 as the host country.
Many voices have come out calling on football fans to boycott the United States for the upcoming World Cup 2026. The US is a co-host country alongside Canada and Mexico. Given the violence unfolding in America, coupled with President Donald Trump making an enemy out of every country in world; safety has become a serious concern.
With ICE on an aggressive violent deportation campaign that has left some people dead, there are concerns on how foreign nationals landing in the country for the World Cup will be treated by this seemingly violent government.

The former FIFA boss Mr Sepp Blatter added his voice against the US joining the calls to boycott the US. He took to his social media page where he agreed with Mark Pieth who advised fans to stay away from the United States.
Donald Trump has been described as the modern Hitler by some political leaders in South Africa, the President and CIC of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Mr Julius Malema also called on South Africa to boycott the G20 in America, as they have also been blocked from attending. He said he will also be mobilising other countries to boycott the G20 to be hosted by the hostile USA.
It seems, should it happen, the US will be faced with a number of boycotts this year. The World Cup brings with it economic spin-offs that can also benefit small businesses in the country; however, it seems the Trump administration is not bothered by the side effects of their approach.
Whether football lovers will actually boycott the World Cup in the US, it remains to be seen. FIFA remains mum on the matter to date.
