JOHANNESBURG – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has successfully wrapped up its 34th Ordinary Congress at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference Centre. The landmark event capped off an intensive and highly productive weekend of football governance in the East of Johannesburg.
The weekend’s proceedings kicked off with a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday, followed by a Constitutional Congress on Saturday, before culminating in Sunday’s main Ordinary Congress.
Delegates from across the nation gathered alongside high-profile international dignitaries, including FIFA Southern Africa Regional Lead David Fani and newly appointed COSAFA President Tariq Babitseng. The Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, also addressed the esteemed gathering.
A major highlight of the congress was the demonstration of financial transparency and stability. SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan proudly announced the acceptance of the association’s audited financial statement, marking a remarkable 32nd consecutive year of receiving an unqualified audit report.
“This was tabled and accepted by the Congress, as was all other 32 years’ audited financial statement presented and accepted by Congress,” noted Dr. Jordaan.
Looking ahead, SAFA is positioned for a lucrative era. Finance Committee Chairman Mxolisi Sibam projected a strong financial recovery on the horizon. This upward trajectory is expected to be significantly bolstered by the arrival of new corporate partners and Bafana Bafana’s highly anticipated qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The technical department was also out in full force, with senior national team coaches Hugo Broos and Dr. Desiree Ellis among the technical staff in attendance. With statutory constitutional amendments successfully adopted, SAFA now firmly sets its sights on its upcoming September Congress.
