Remove all obstacles to two-state solution

Erase the memory of them. Erase them, their families, mothers and children. These animals can no longer live.

South Africa remains resolute on calling for a two-state solution, for Israel to exist peacefully alongside with Palestine and put an end to the modern holocaust taking place in Gaza.

In addressing the media on Wednesday, the Minister for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in South Africa Ronald Lamola; said South Africa cannot stand back and watch as the people of Palestine are being wiped off the map.

Lamola said there is a genocide taking place in Gaza and Israel is continuing unabated in complete defiance of international law. He told the media as he gave an update on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) case initiated by South Africa, that Israel has intention to completely destroy the Palestinian people, he said they have evidence of high ranking government officials of Israel attributing to such.

“Erase the memory of them. Erase them, their families, mothers and children. These animals can no longer live,” Lamola quoted one of the statements made by Israel government officials.

Lamola said Israel must be subjected to internal law and cannot receive special treatment, while the law applies to others, especially Africans and the global South, Israel must also be held to account.

“We reiterate that the international community cannot proclaim the importance of international law, including respect for the UN Charter in some situations and not in others. International legal mechanisms are not only to be used to target Africans and those in the global South. These are universal instruments aimed at justice for all.

South Africa instituted proceedings before the International Court of Justice to preserve the existence of the Palestinian people as a group, to end all acts of apartheid and genocide against the Palestinian people. As highlighted by the President in his State of the Nation Address, South Africa acted in accordance with its international obligations by instituting the proceedings against Israel,” said Minister Ronald Lamola.

The Minister said South Africa will not change its tune when it comes to Israel, an ally of America, he alluded that South Africa remains resolute in its call for a two-state solution.

“We will also continue to call for two-states, the State of Palestine and the State of Israel, to exist side by side in peace and security. As we have said to the UN General Assembly recently, all obstacles to the two-state solution should be removed,” he said.

He said the following must be removed:

(a) An immediate ceasefire and a commitment to a peace process.
(b) The release of hostages by Hamas and political prisoners by the state of Israel.
(c) The halting of illegal Israeli settlement expansion.
(d) The removal of the illegal separation wall cutting across the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
(e) The resumption of all internationally reputable humanitarian relief efforts and the reconstruction of Gaza, which of course can only take place once there is peace.
