Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM) cautions residents against a false voice note making the rounds on social media claiming that there will be no service delivery in the Metro until further notice.
Mr Qondile Khedama, the General Manager of Communications for the City, said they have noted with concern the voice note carrying false information to the public regarding service delivery. The voice note says there will be water supply interruptions until further notice, and encouraged people to fill up their buckets and containers with water, waste will not be collected and digging of graves will not be attended to.
“The audio clip is misleading members of the community and causing panic. In an event of any water supply interruptions, the City will inform residents as per usual. The origin of the clip is not known, and the person is yet to be identified. The matter is receiving attention through the City’s head of Public Safety,” said Khedama.
Qondile Khedama further called on the public to be alert, and ignore unofficial communiqué from individuals.
“We will continuously update residents of Mangaung about the status of water supply interruptions and other service delivery related matters in the City, and officially communicate with the public,” said Khedama.
Khedama is calling on people who share false information to cease from doing that because it inconveniences the community.
