MEC Makume to host women’s month dialogue

August is one of the important months in South Africa, a month where the nation gets to celebrate its heroines from all walks of life, for their diverse strong roles they play in society. It is a month that the nation commemorates the women who bravely stood up against injustice during the apartheid era.

In marking 69 years since 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, to protest against the pass laws, the Free State MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Ketso Makume will convene the women employees from the Provincial Treasury, and DESTEA, under one roof to commemorate Women’s Month by hosting women dialogue on Friday, 22 August 2025 under the theme: ” Building resilient economy for all”.

According to the Spokesperson for the department, Tshidiso Mokokoane, the said session is aimed at empowering and encouraging women to own up to their space, own who they are, own saying YES or NO, stop putting their worth in the hands of others and learn how to defend themselves, to continue thriving in their respective careers and businesses to witness a gender equal world.

The MEC will give his full attention to the ladies who keep his department going and in order, by attending to their emotional and mental health, including their safety both online and physical. The session will discuss a variety of topics affecting women on a daily basis.

The discussion will focus on the following topics:

* Women asserting and occupying their space.

* Online dating safety tips for women.

* Essential self-defense tips for women.
