Should all go well, Kyalami will once again be buzzing with F1 activity and with the glorious sounds of powerful engines, this is according to the Minister for Sports, Arts and Culture Mr Gayton McKenzie.
The Minister has a special love for cars, he said he wants to make spinning cars, or drag racing an official sporting code as it enjoys a lot of support and can keep most young people off the streets and from drugs.
Again, McKenzie revealed on his X account that he has secured a meeting with relevant people in Monaco in August to bring what he terms, the biggest sporting tourist event to South Africa, which is F1.
Gayton McKenzie is so committed to this venture that he said should his term end without having brought F1 to the country, he would have failed.
South Africa last enjoyed the Grand Prix in 1993. There have been attempts to revive the sport in 2024, but the plans have failed. Minister McKenzie is willing to pick up the fallen baton and run with it.
