BLOEMFONTEIN – The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality has successfully stabilized the local water supply system following an act of vandalism at the Signal Hill Reservoir.
According to an official municipal statement released today, June 10, 2026, criminal damage to a critical valve within the reservoir system initially threatened network stability. In response, technical teams swiftly isolated the affected water supply and shut off the damaged valve to prevent significant water losses.
Emergency operational measures were immediately deployed to stabilize the grid. The municipality has confirmed that water supply operations have since been restored to normal, and the Signal Hill Reservoir is steadily recovering and recharging.
To ensure long-term network security, the damaged valve will remain isolated until permanent repairs are finalized. Furthermore, the municipality plans to implement robust infrastructural upgrades to safeguard the site against future tampering.
