Justice for Cwecwe march in Bloemfontein

The nation is enraged to the weak of the disheartening and blood boiling news of a seven year old girl being raped at school and the school sweeping the matter under the carpet for months.

Today, 1 April 2025, there will be a nationwide march to the Department of Education in the respective provinces, whereby the society, civil society groups and political parties will demand justice for Cwecwe.

The Department of Social Development in the Free State Province has also joined in and organised a march that will commence from Hoffman Square in Bloemfontein to the Department of Education at 10am.

It is reported that Cwecwe was raped at her school at Matatiele Bergville College in October last year while waiting for her transport. The matter was reported to the police and investigations ensued, the caretaker and the driver were cleared of any foul play after cooperating with the authorities.

However, it has emerged that the principal of the school is allegedly not cooperating; he is allegedly refusing to give DNA samples and attempted to intimidate the mother of the seven years old learner into silence. It is further alleged that Cwecwe was drugged to a point of unconsciousness before the rape took place.

The Department of the Education in the province has also applied for the school to be deregistered as the school failed to uphold and cooperate with the law; instead it protected its image for months and to date, nothing has been done with matter.

Political parties and Labour Unions have come out strongly to condemn the horrific act and are demanding justice for Cwecwe.

The incident has got the whole nation in an uproar, simply because schools are meant to be a safe place for learners, and in particular for girl learners, but this has proved otherwise.
