FS Premier to table SOPA 2025

The Free State Province’s Premier Ms MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae is geared to table her second State of the Province Address (SOPA) 2025, where she is expected to outline key policy goals for the year ahead.

The province has been at strides in attracting investors, both local and international, grow its economy, and fight the scourge of unemployment especially amongst the youth; it has been working hard in getting its municipalities to function optimally and for them to be compliant and implement the remedial actions by the Auditor General (AG).

Furthermore, the Free State Provincial Government has been pushing its agricultural sector to maintain its breadbasket status of the country. Once again the education sector has defended its number one status in the country.

Premier Letsoha-Mathae is expected to reflect on the previous year’s performance of the provinces economy and its industries and outline steps to be taken in addressing the challenges in the province for the next fiscal year 2025/26.

According to the Spokesperson of the Free State Legislature Mr Jongi Ndakana, the Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana, has convened the first sitting of the house for 2025 marking the Official Opening of the Free State Legislature. This event is set to take place on the 21 February 2025.

He said this is a significant event in the provincial calendar, this sitting will allow the Premier of the Free State, Hon. MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae to table the State of the Province Address for the financial period 2025/2026.

After the election of the Presiding Officers and the Chairpersons of Portfolio Committees in 2024, the Premier had the opportunity to articulate the newly appointed Administration’s five-year vision and plans when the 7th Legislature took office.

“This State of the Province Address (SOPA) will therefore afford Hon. Letsoha-Mathae an opportune moment to outline key policy goals and deliverables for the coming year, as well as the province’s effective response to the challenges met during the period under review,” said Mdakana.

The SOPA will take place on Friday, 21 February 2025, at Lemo Mall Green Park in Bloemfontein at 10am South African time.
