The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Free State province has won ward 8 in Setsoto Local Municipality in the by-elections held on Wednesday. The ward was under the leadership of Setsoto Service Delivery Forum (SSDF).
In celebrating their victory, the EFF says it continues to witness growth in key areas and territories known to be the ruling party’s strong hold, while the DA, the official opposition party keeps losing numbers.
“In 2021, the EFF received 240 votes in ward 8 and today it registered a decisive victory with 1207 votes. It is important to note that as the ruling party and opposition loses ground rapidly, the EFF continues to make progress in its quest to capture the imagination of South Africans and unseat the ruling party,” said Patience Ditabe, the Spokesperson for the EFF in the Free State.
According to the Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State, the EFF won the seat previously held by the Setsoto Service Delivery Forum in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with an outright majority of 54,69% of the total votes cast, compared to 38,47% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 61,44%. The new EFF ward 8 Councillor is Lebohang Gilbert Mokoakoe.
