Disaster strikes at SANDF camp in DRC

The South African Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed the unfortunate reports of two of its members deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of the United Organisation Stabilisation Mission to have died.

The SANDF explained that the incident occurred when one member shot and kill the other before turning the service weapon on themselves killing them. An inquiry has since been commissioned to investigate the circumstances that led to the incident.

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Hon. Thandi Modise, her Deputy Mr Thabang Makwetla, Acting Secretary for Defence Dr Thobekile Gamede and the Chief of SANDF General Rudzani Maphwanya expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased.
