DA launches petition for title deeds

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mangaung has launched a petition for residents in Turflaagte to receive title deeds to their homes. Some residents in the area have alleged that they have not received title deeds despite being recipients and living in municipal homes for over 15 years.

According to Cllr Lyle Bouwer, Human Settlements is a significant function of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality. Bouwer says unfortunately, due to mismanagement, irregularities and a lack of accountability, the department is one of the worst performing in the metro. This has resulted in a growing backlog, which is concerning, and there is no end in sight.

“In some instances, residents who have received title deeds are not the rightful recipients of the homes, and others who are not ordinary residents in the area have unduly benefitted by receiving multiple title deeds over those who qualify for assistance.

This is an indication of the deeply rooted corruption within Mangaung and a major contributor to the slow turnaround of the housing crisis in the municipality,” said Cllr Lyle Bouwer.

“The ANC-run municipality, despite the various promises and utterances of hope and transformation, has failed to bring tangible change to the residents of Ipopeng’s lives.

The community has shown support for the DA’s petition, which we will escalate to the relevant committee in the municipality for intervention.

We are committed to upholding the dignity of all residents in Mangaung. We will continue fighting for inclusive and sustainable human settlements where people can live in safety, opportunity and hope,” concluded Bouwer.
