With just five days to go to the national and provincial elections, CENTLEC says it is ready to ensure a glitch-free election from 27 to 20 May 2024.
The utility is pulling all stops to ensure a proper, effective functional grid in support of the Electoral Commission (IEC) during the two days of special votes and on the 29 May.
According to the Spokesperson of CENTLEC, Lele Mamatu, the CEO of CENTLEC Malefane Sekoboto met with his Executive and Middle Management of the company from the Engineering Wires and Security of the utility to discuss and prepare for the upcoming general elections and provide necessary support to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the province.
“The power utility has allocated personnel and resources to all regions and key strategic areas such as the Free State Results Operation Centre (ROC) to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power as well as speedy response to any potential outages or unforeseen disruptions.
However, we have taken note of the high levels of vandalism of our network and theft of equipment within the Mangaung Metro supply area. We are collaborating and participating in the Prov. Joints convened and chaired by the South African Police Services to protect our electrical infrastructure. Furthermore, contingency plans are already in place to reduce and prevent the risk of power outages specifically in areas where voting stations are situated,” said Mamatu.
“As CENTLEC, we are confident that our personnel are more than ready to provide an uninterrupted and reliable services up until the last vote is counted and the results of the elections are announced,” he concluded.
