The opening fixture of the qualification trail proved to be a stern examination of South Africa’s continental credentials, requiring tactical discipline, resilience, and a late intervention to claim all three points.

Backed by a vociferous home crowd, Coach Pitso Mosimane’s charges asserted control early on, manufacturing several promising openings. South Africa’s senior men’s national team will face Eritrea in their next qualifier at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. Bafana Bafana will then conclude their travels with a high-profile international friendly against Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium on 4 October 2026.
