Free State to host G20 countries

Preparations to host member states of the G20 in the Free State are well underway and the Free State Executive Committee (EXCO) led by the Free State Premier Ms MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae is pleased with the progress thus far.

The Free State province leadership has been on strides to sell the province as a bankable and investment destination of choice to investors, as it is well-positioned to become one of the economic hubs in the country as it is at the centre of the country, bordering one country, Lesotho and four provinces.

The Free State has great economic potential with a diversity of industries including tourism.

South Africa is the current President of the G20, as such; heads of states from the economic bloc have been frequenting South Africa since its ascendency to Presidency taking over from Brazil. The country has been hosting numerous G20 meetings as a build up to the G20 Summit in November this year.

The Free State has also hosted investment conferences where both foreign and domestic investors showed interest in the province. Furthermore, Mangaung Metro, the only metro and economic hub of the province, has held investment indabas as build ups towards the ultimate investment conference which attracted investment worth of billions.

According to the Spokesperson to the Office of the Premier, Ms Matshidiso Setai, the Free State province will host the G20 Cultural Diplomacy road-show from 7 to 8 August 2025. The road-show aims to showcase South Africa’s rich and diverse heritage, strengthen international and promote the G20 vision of inclusivity and collaboration.

The province will get to show case its rich culture and heritage to the international market, which will help grow the tourism sector of the Free State.

“On 14 August 2025, the G20 Education Working Group Indaba will take place in Bloemfontein at the Central University of Technology (CUT). Themed ‘The Role of Early Childhood Care and Education in improving the quality of foundational learning’ the indaba will draw the participation of education stakeholders and experts,” said Setai.
