ANC NWC to engage with Free State PEC

The African National Congress (ANC) National Working Committee (NWC) will today, 10 March 2025; engage the Free State Province’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) on the state of ANC structures and service delivery matters.

The NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC) made their way to the Free State over the weekend to assess the state of the branches in all five regions. Consultations took place with regions to hear first-hand on what the challenges are on the ground and at branch level.

The NWC sternly dismissed claims that it is in the province to disband and re-align ANC structures like in KZN and Gauteng, instead, the liberation party said it is here to strengthen the party, to assess the state of the organisation, review governance and service delivery matters, and ensure alignment with ANC policies and priorities.

Though the ANC retained the province during the national elections in 2024, voter support for the party has declined and has been dropping over the years. With local elections around the corner, it is vital for the ANC to get its footing right to avoid a further decline in voter support.

Service delivery and corruption were amongst the issues that affected confidence in the ANC and voters, especially in the Free State, instead of voting for a different party, they opted to stay at home as a form punishment. According to IPSOS during last year’s elections, due to lack of confidence in the ANC, the party is fast becoming a rural party; if something drastic is not done to turn the situation around, voter support will dwindle.

Though not yet satisfactory, the ANC in the Free State has managed to stabilise the party from the factional infighting battles that eventually affected service delivery.

The meeting with the PEC is set to kick off at 10am in Bloemfontein.
