The latest round of the Betway Premiership delivered a master-class in heart-stopping, dying-minute drama, completely reshaping the contours of the league table. From the Free State to Polokwane and the Eastern Cape, late heroics defined a weekend where established order took a back seat to sheer tenacity.
N’Guessan Breaks Polokwane Hearts to Ignite Siwelele’s Campaign
At the Toyota Stadium, super-sub Michel N’Guessan etched his name into Siwelele FC folklore, netting in the 90th minute to seal a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Polokwane City.
The encounter was a frustrating affair for the hosts, who dominated possession and saw wave after wave of attack neutralized by veteran goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke. The former FIFA Puskás Award nominee put on a goalkeeping clinic in the first half, producing a brilliant trio of saves to keep the scores level at the interval.
With the match seemingly destined for a stalemate, Coach Godfrey Mosoetsa threw on Ivorian forward N’Guessan in the 87th minute. Just three minutes later, N’Guessan justified his manager’s faith, finally beating Masuluke to send the home supporters into raptures and secure Siwelele’s maiden win of the campaign.
The victory lifts the Free State outfit to 14th on the log, while Polokwane City’s winless run stretches to eight matches across all competitions, leaving them languishing in 11th. In a fascinating twist of fate, the two sides will lock horns once again in the Last 16 of the Carling Knockout Cup.
Muzeu’s Diving Header Rescues Sekhukhune in Seven-Goal Thriller Atmosphere
Over at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Sekhukhune United secured a gritty 2-1 victory over bottom-placed Marumo Gallants in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Sekhukhune controlled the early proceedings, opening the scoring in the 29th minute through Oageng Phiri, who latched onto a well-weighted through ball from Ellis Rammala to round the keeper and slot into an empty net.
However, Gallants came out swinging after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute when Sibusiso Ncube whipped in a dangerous cross that took a massive deflection off Melusi Buthelezi for an own-goal, levelling the score.
Just as Gallants looked destined to secure a hard-earned point away from home, Sekhukhune struck a decisive blow deep into added time. Substitute Bethuel Muzeu met a cross from D’Angelo Kazeem with a brilliant diving header, snatching all three points.
The victory propels Sekhukhune up to sixth position—level on 14 points with fifth-placed Kaizer Chiefs—while Gallants remain rooted to the bottom in 16th.
Sibiya Stunner Sinks Chippa as Kruger United Rise
Rounding off a weekend dominated by late goals, Kruger United eased their relegation worries with a crucial 1–0 away victory over Chippa United at the Buffalo City Stadium.
The Chilli Boys enjoyed periods of dominance, with Goodman Mosele and Justice Figuareido both coming close, only to be thwarted by heroic defending and resilient goalkeeping from Marcel Dandjinou.
As the match ticked into injury time, it appeared both sides would settle for a share of the spoils. However, Sipho Sibiya had other ideas. Controlling a precise cross from the right flank, Sibiya crashed a brilliant shot into the bottom corner in the 93rd minute to break Chippa hearts. The dramatic win halts Chippa’s four-match unbeaten run while lifting the Village Boys to 12th place on the log.
Elsewhere in the division, Milford FC pulled off the headline result of the round, leapfrogging Kaizer Chiefs into fourth place courtesy of Siphosethu Ndlabi’s 1–0 triumph over Golden Arrows.
As the Betway Premiership heads toward the final stretch of October, the battle for both the top half and survival is proving more unpredictable than ever.
