The Electoral Commission in the Free State says day two of registration weekend went remarkably well as turnout was good.
According to Mmathabo Rasengane, the IEC’s Spokesperson in the Free State, a total of 68 887 voters visiting our 1586 voting stations, of these voters, 12 712 are new registered voters, 35 312 re-registered in the same voting district, 20 863 moved the voting districts.
Of these voters, those from 16-18 years were 462, 18-21 years were 6 063 and above 21 were 62 362. In terms of gender, 38 491 were females and 30 396 were males.
The Free State Provincial Electoral Officer Mr. Jabulani Tshabalala expressed his gratitude to the voters that heeded IEC’s call and participated, the registration staff for the extraordinary work, the landowners for availing their facilities and service providers for the services rendered, the SAPS for providing security during this weekend, the Department of Home Affairs for extending their operating hours to enable electorates to get the required documentation, the Media for covering all activities and providing transparency, the political parties for always being supportive and cooperative and last but not list the IEC staff for the astonishing work that they have done to ensure the success of the registration weekend.
Online registration still continues and those that did not have the opportunity to register this past weekend, can still use this platform on registertovote.elections.org.za.
