South Africans will have to dig deeper into their pockets as Eskom has hiked its tariffs by 12.72% for the period of 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 as approved by NERSA.
The mining industry has recorded a loss in production due to load-shedding in the previous fiscal quarter, while battling the scourge of power cuts, key sectors will now have to pay more for electricity. According to ESKOM; the average increase applied to the key industrial and urban tariffs will be 13.29% due to the increase in the affordability subsidy charge. Local authority (municipalities) charges will effect from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 with an increase of 12.72%. Direct Eskom customer’s charges will effect from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 at 12.74%.
