Disaster victims get relief

Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM) together with Gift of the Givers extended a caring and helping hand on Wednesday, 28 February 2024, to victims of a tornado that caused serious havoc in the metro last year December.

Residents of Turflaagte and Botshabelo were adversely affected by a tornado that swept through the metro last December, living most of them homeless and had to resort to shacks for shelter. Some of them lost their belongings and have to start life afresh.

The Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro Cllr. Gregory Nthatisi and his Deputy Cllr. Lulama Titi-Odili led the initiative to bring relief to their residents. Working with Gift of the Givers, they handed out food parcels to the victims of the tornado.

Executive Mayor Cllr. Gregory Nthatisi said it very important for communities to pull together in times like these. Many families lost their homes and have been living in makeshift shacks ever since while they try to recover from the disaster. The Executive Mayor assured the disaster victims that plans to address the housing matter are underway and the Metro will provide long-term solutions for the affected residents.

The grocery parcels brought much relief and hope to the affected residents and Mangaung Metro continues to support the residents.
