Whether the African National Congress (ANC) will fall on its sword after losing the case against the Democratic Alliance (DA) on Monday, 12 February 2024, at the Constitutional Court, remains to be seen as it will deal a big blow for the ruling party ahead of the national elections.
The DA had taken the ANC to court to release all cadre deployment records dating back to 1 January 2013, when Cyril Ramaphosa became the ruling party’s chairperson of the deployment committee and make them public.
The documents include meeting minutes, CVs, email threads and WhatsApp discussions. According to the terms of judgement, the liberation party is to release the documents within five working days.
The ANC tried to appeal the matter to prevent the release of the documents, but they were unsuccessful and the ConCourt ruled in favour of the DA.
In its judgment, the apex court ordered that condonation is grated and leave to appeal is refused with costs.
The ANC Spokesperson Mahlengi Bengu said the party has noted the judgement and the party will study the judgement to ensure that it is adhered to accordingly.
