Chiefs gets a ‘warm klaap’ from Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns gave Kaizer Chiefs a spectacular ‘warm klaap’ last night at FNB Stadium in Soweto. Masandawana are now sitting comfortably on top of the DSTV PSL log.

From the first whistle, the Glamour Boys were out paced by the Brazilians as they were chasing the ball and defending most of the time. The Chiefs defence was caught flat-footed on numerous times. Failing to keep up with the pace, Given Msimango fouled Lucas Robeiro who ran past three Amakhosi players and was heading for gaol.

The referee blew the whistle for the offense and reached into his pocket and gave Msimango a red card on the 19th minute. The Glamour Boys were now down to 10 men against a strong Sundowns.

The Brazilians kept on exposing the Chiefs defences with shorts at the keeper and runs past the defence, but fortunately for Kaizer Chiefs, they were not able to convert those chances.

The game went to break with a goalless draw.

In the second half, Ka bo Yellow was a runaway train smashing everything in front of it. From a brilliant through pass in the Amakhosi box, Tashreeq Matthews opened the flood gates on 52nd minute. Four minutes later, running past four players of Chiefs into the box, Matias Esquivel scored the second goal on the 56th minute.

Mamelodi Sundowns was not done, with great passes past the Chiefs defence, Robeiro found the back of the net on the 80th minute, but the flag was up for offside, the goal did not count; but that was nothing to worry about for Sundowns. Two minutes later, from a through pass between two defenders and his fast pace running onto the ball, Matthews scored his second goal making it 3-0 on the 82nd minute.

The Glamour Boys also wanted to make their presence felt and mark the register that they were present in the match, with a run into the Sundowns box forcing an error; the referee pointed to the spot and Mduduzi Shabalala converted on the 85th minute. It was now Sundowns 3-1 Kaizer Chiefs.

The Brazilians responded, with free space, Robeiro took a shot just outside the Amakhosi box and scored the fourth goal on the 90th minute. Four minutes into added time, Thembinkosi Lorch ran past the flat-footed Chiefs defence and receiving a chipped ball over the defence, with a header he scored the fifth goal on the 90+4 minute.

Kaizer Chiefs was saved by the whistle as Masandawana showed no sign of ending their scoring spree.

The Brazilians won the game 5-1.
