CENTLEC has noted with concern the arrest of one of its employees for scamming unsuspecting job seekers, promising them permanent employment in exchange of money. The power utility is cautioning the community against such.
According to the Spokesperson of CENTLEC, Lele Mamatu, one of the investigators at CENTLEC received a tip off on 10 February 2024 from a community member alleging that some of the utility’s employees are involved in scamming desperate job seekers. CENTLEC then followed up on the information that led to the arrest of the call centre agent Mr Mbuyiselo Gcinisa.
“CENTLEC, then launched a joint operation with the SAPS which led to the arrest of Mr. Mbuyiselo Gcinisa. Following his arrest, he is facing charges relating to Fraud and false Pretenses and is being detained at Boithuso Police Station in Botshabelo. He has already appeared before the Botshabelo Magistrate Court on the 23rd of April 2024 where he was denied bail,” said Mamatu.
Lele Mamatu says community members who are searching for jobs at CENTLEC can verify the authenticity of the vacancy advertisement on the entity’s website www.centlec.co.za He says under no circumstances will CENTLEC representatives or any of its employees requires any sort of payment from applicants during its recruitment processes.
“We appeal to members of the community who might have information that can assist in the successful prosecution in this case to come forward and get in touch with the investigators at the Boithuso Police Station and those who might have been tricked or lured into actions of job scam, either by our employees or representatives, are also encouraged to report such to the nearest police or CENTLEC.

Mr Mbuyiselo Gcinisa remains in custody at Boithuso Police Station in Botshabelo.
